Jebediah’s ‘OIKS’ Tour: A Sonic Revival at The Triffid

Brisbane’s The Triffid hosted a raucous night of Aussie rock royalty on July 6th, headlined by Jebediah’s long-awaited return with their OIKS album tour. The night kicked off with an intimate solo set by Kellie Lloyd, showcasing her impressive musical range from indie-rock anthems to dream-pop reveries. Lloyd’s captivating performance and soulful vocals set the stage for a night of pure musical indulgence.

Following Lloyd’s warm-up, Magic Dirt took the stage, igniting the crowd with their signature blend of grunge-infused rock and roll. A mixture of classic 90’s-era radio staples and new work (that somehow holds on to the original MD sound) comprised the setlist, with the overall sound being absolutely spectacular – other than a few initial teething issues, which at this point is almost a feature of their shows.

Mid-set, we saw a sweet moment when Adalita saw a familiar face in the crowd and reached out from the stage to touch the outstretched hand of The Superjesus’ Sarah McLeod as she sang along. The band’s raw energy and powerful sound, anchored by Adalita Srsen’s charismatic vocals, reverberated through The Triffid, leaving the audience hungry for more. A great performance overall, showing new fans why we consider Magic Dirt the fine wine of Australian alternative rock.

Finally, Jebediah emerged, greeted by a chorus of cheers and anticipation. The Perth quartet wasted no time diving into their set, opening with the energetic ‘Motivation’ and ‘Military Strongmen’, instantly rekindling the audience’s fervor. The band seamlessly blended tracks from their latest album OIKS with beloved classics like Harpoon and Fall Down, creating a dynamic and unforgettable live experience.

Vocalist Kevin Mitchell’s infectious enthusiasm and the band’s tight-knit chemistry radiated throughout the performance, captivating the crowd from start to finish. The new material from OIKS proved to be a hit, seamlessly integrated with the band’s established sound and showcasing their continued evolution as artists.

The night culminated in a euphoric encore, featuring Rubberman and Gum Up The Bearings, before ending on an explosive high with fan favorites Leaving Home and Jerks Of Attention. The crowd’s unbridled energy and the band’s electrifying performance made for a truly unforgettable night of Australian rock ‘n roll.

Jebediah’s OIKS tour is a testament to the band’s enduring legacy and their ability to consistently deliver an exhilarating live show. With a perfect blend of new material and timeless classics, Jebediah proved once again why they remain a beloved fixture in the Australian music scene.
